About Laughton

Laughton King, Educational Psychologist, author and visiting speaker, offers short seminars at your school.

Having practiced as an Educational, Child and Family Psychologist for the last thirty years, (CV following) Laughton has now closed his practice in Whangarei, and is touring New Zealand with his partner Natalie Tate. Natalie, a nationally recognised artist, has similarly closed her Northland Studio and now offers portrait and landscape paintings to commission from their Mobile Studio Truck-home. As part of her artwork repertoire, Natalie offers a three hour public live-sitting portrait in oils, as well as family Heritage painted images to a client’s request.

Their aim is to spend the next two years plus, touring the country, visiting the smaller centres, with Laughton offering short seminars to local communities – teachers, teacher aides, parents, special educators and social workers – around the topics of learning difficulties (including ‘dyslexia’) and co-operative parenting.

Recognising that smaller communities are generally by-passed by the ‘visiting speaker circuit’ it is Laughton and Natalie’s intention to bring their skills to ‘heartland New Zealand’ in an enjoyable and economic manner.

Their proposed itinerary has them on the east side of the North Island 2007, then in the South Island 2008 crawling west school by school, seminar by seminar. 2009 will see them east-side, and back in the North Island 2010, west-side. They have a proposed Roundup Exhibition (Nat's art)-cum-Book launch (Lort - a compilation of the Tour's illustrated newsletters - do get on their database to receive these) at the "Exhibitions Gallery" (was Fishers Gallery) Featherston St, Wellington. Stay posted for this date.

Laughton's seminars would be 2-3 hours in length and for groups of 12 to 60 participants – from your own school, or from the wider general community. We suggest that by inviting the wider community and other local schools, the seminars could become cost-free to the host school.

The menu to this site offers more information about the topic and contents of the seminars, and also some organizational guidelines. Laughton is happy to be contacted by cell phone 0274 171 804 or by e-mail. Natalie is on 0274 826 545.
